A passing thought...

When i decide to take a long walk, i usually pass by a graveyard. On multiple occasions i have felt differently while passing by. Mostly i am too occupied in thoughts to think anything or get in to philosophical mode, a few times i have bowed my head a little, a few times i haven't noticed that i have passed by, routine does that to you.

But the other day, walking by,i couldn't help but look at a burial ceremony. I just felt so wrong to continue my walk and decided to stand there for couple of minutes. I walked through the graveyard at a little distance. There were a few others who decided to do the same. I heard the minister talk and as he prayed for the deceased soul, who was an old women, he mentioned something about how we never die, even after death we live cause Jesus lives. The very line implies that if you have faith in lord, you are living even after death. Simple logic which should calm your loved ones down if they have faith.

Every religion has an explanation to why you should not be scared of death. Some say you will be reborn-ed, some say you live in form of lord but the intent is the same, very pure and simple, to help men deal with their biggest fear: Death.

I usually am one of those who have never bothered to think about death. I believe i have a long life in front of me(sometime simply being optimistic makes life so much easier), but i do have met a few who cannot even bear to talk of death as it bothers them immensely. Though i am a believer in some spiritual power and religion but the concept of life after death is something i cannot come to terms with, neither in form of god nor being reborn-ed. I think i am fine living and dying in the very world! And i guess this is how an Atheist may feel too because he doesn't have any religious logic working for him , how else will he come to terms with his fear?

I don't know how the old women's relatives must be feeling, did they believe that she is still alive somewhere in company of God or were they fine her being dead fondly remembering her life that she must have shared with them? Every moment would be special now, it will bring tears yes, but it will be worth it!

Here is a toast to her life and life in general!

  1. When you witness or experience something like this, you suddenly start to feel if everything we are fighting for is worth. In the end all we need is 6 feet of land. Sad reality but like many things in life, we don't want to think about it.

  2. This reminds of an incident, where we (me n sparsh) were attending an Art of Living class. the teacher/trainer, everybody used to call him 'Guruji', was telling us that we should do all the good deeds possible in this life so that our good karma help us in our next lives and we'll be happy in our next lives. Then, Guruji started Q&A session and Sparsh asked him, that if he feels that hez content enough and happy in his current birth then why should he bother about re-birth and make my current life something different from what it is currently. If there is something called re-birth than God will make me happy and if not then I'll tackle the situation at that time. Why get nostalgic about these things from here on and change my current life... Though Guruji gave many other arguments but as such we all, in the calls couldn't connect to those and thought not to argue on this further. I feel you cannot argue on this point with anybody as it's said in hindi... "Bina apne mare swarg nahi dikhta.. :)". We took it this way that atleast this belief can lead some good deeds.. :)

  3. yes Solilo, such incidents are very humbling. And the everday petty fights are the result of the untamed ego that we confuse makes us.

Varsha, i had done the course too and found amazing health benifits. It keeps my allergies in check.
The point he would be making is that we should do good karma and if you are doing it then you need not make your current life different, you are already doing what he is saying.

Some people believe in re-birth , i don't but i do understand the concept behind it. It can be considered as an incentive to keep doing the act of goodness. :). Sometime people respond to such logic more easily.
